Beavers is a simple, flexible program designed in Canada to meet the needs and interest of children 5, 6 and 7 years old. The theme of the program is based upon beavers and the beaver colony. It focuses on sharing, co-operation and playing in small groups, in harmony with nature. Individual competition and structured achievement are not part of the program. Our Beaver meetings are held once a week during the School year, for 1 hour. The meetings include active and quiet games, stories, creative crafts, singing and ceremonies. Occasionally they have parties, picnics or special celebrations.
For some events and activities, involvement by a parent or guardian is extremely important to a Beaver. They play a part in ceremonies and are welcomed as friends of the Beavers. They give encouragement to their child when they bring projects home. Beavers is a family centered program.
